Customer scenario 1

Mr Smith is living in the Middle East and is paid in US dollars. He needs access to his salary, but also needs to send funds back to the UK to cover his children's college fees.  He also needs to set funds aside for a 'rainy day'.

Possible solution:

  • US dollar Transave Account to accept his US dollar salary and a sterling Transave Account for convenient transfers to the UK
  • US dollar denominated Visa International Debit Card to access cash machines, pay for goods and services in shops and to shop online whilst in the Middle East and travelling abroad. For added convenience, an additional card denominated in sterling can be obtained for use while visiting the UK
  • Internet banking to initiate sterling BACS payments (standard 3-day turnaround) directly from the sterling account free of charge to pay regular or one-off college fees. If payment is required more urgently, other chargeable methods such as CHAPS are available. Standing orders can be set up for sterling payments
  • Notice Deposit Account in US dollar and/or sterling to initiate a rainy day fund. Our 30 Day or 90 Day Notice Account can be selected according to Mr Smith's personal preference

Customer scenario 2

Mr and Mrs Jones have sold their property in the UK and are retiring to live in Spain. Mr Jones will receive his retirement pensions in sterling.  They already own their property abroad and so have no need to access the house sale funds. They need to get their funds working as hard as possible but Mrs Jones would like to access some of the sale proceeds within a reasonable timeframe.

Possible solution:

  • Fixed Term Deposit Account in sterling and euro for the majority of house sale funds to maximise interest earning potential
  • Mr and Mrs Jones can tailor a selection of term options to suit their preferences and access requirements
  • Sterling Transave Account to collect sterling pensions and a euro Transave Account to pay local bills in Spain
  •  Sterling and euro denominated Visa International Debit Cards to access automated cash machines. The sterling card can be used in the UK and euro card in Europe to keep currency conversion charges to a minimum. Both can be used to pay for goods and services in shops and to shop online
  • Internet Banking so that Mr and Mrs Jones can view their balances for all accounts and, if required in the future, initiate payments worldwide in a wide range of currency options
